In my opinion about fake news issue,
i quite sure that is not a big matter for us, i mean for millennial. because we
have started more carefully in consuming an information from all media, right? it
means already have a digital literation skill.
Dailysocial.id do the research about
hoax distribution through digital platform 2018 (find full article here)
and one of the result said that (51.5%) half of the respondents determine to
remain silent when they receive hoax. Sounds good, right?
But i worry about people who older
than me wkwk, for example one of my family, they were consuming information
without any filter. I told them “don’t believe so easily for the information that
you received in whatsapp or facebook” or if they heard some information which
begins with the word “katanya” please find the source. but the reality is not.
And It is not only happen in my
family, i had discussed about this with my friends and they find the same
problem like me. Their parents trust the information so easy. Wah it is so
serious problem
Another result from dailysocial
research revealed, most respondents (75%) find it difficult or unsure when
assessing a hoax. So do i. Sometimes I don’t know how to diff between fake and
true information. But I rechecked again, if still not sure, just shut up.

I remember bout the PSA last year
“fake news: spreadin’ fake news is a serious crime”. Created by the famous
agency, hakuhodo x telkomsel. This visual so very creative but when i showing
this ads to my family. The response was flat haha I dunno how much ads can change a
person’s behavior.
In this digital age (you can say post-truth too in political context),
when fake information looks so “real”, when sharing information is a usual
activity and be popular culture, the solution of fake news issues must be
found.
if ads doesn’t work to change, if
advise ignored. maybe we can start from ourselves, start to take responsibility for information that we shared, wherever it is, stop saying
"katanya", and always remind our friends and family to keep
carefully in consuming information.
And the last, i read about how to
report a suspicious news (source: kominfo.go.id), maybe this actions
can stop fake news. So, for you, an Indonesian people, If you read or find a
fake article, you capture it, save that url. And then, send to
aduankonten@mail.kominfo.go.id. or via whatsapp 08119224545. Your reports will
be processed soon after verification process, and the identity of reporter will be protected too, don't worry.
Think smart before sharing :)
